Takeaway review: The Codfather, Cardiff

Retired lecturer Peter Foley thinks the fish and chips at the Codfather in Cardiff are the best around

“I stumbled across the Codfather once while I was waiting to see a film at Chapter Arts Centre and now we go there every time we go to Chapter,” said Peter, who lives in Bridgend with his wife Pat.

“The fish is really fresh and whether I have the cod, plaice or haddock, it is always really good – the batter is divine and I think the chips are the best in Cardiff.”

In fact Peter, a Bridgend county councillor, celebrated his 63rd birthday on Tuesday with a trip to the Codfather in Canton combined with a visit to Chapter.

“We go there every time we go to Chapter which is about once a fortnight and now the trip to the Codfather in Cowbridge Road East is more important than the visit to Chapter!

“It’s like dying and going to heaven.

“A meal there is better than any I’ve ever had in any other fish and chip restaurant anywhere.”
